George M. Martin, M.D.

June 30, 1927 - December 17, 2022

Dr. Martin was born in New York, New York. He was an American biogerontologist. He received both his B.S. in chemistry and his M.D. from the University of Washington and had been a member of its faculty since 1957. Martin was a professor emeritus in the Department of Pathology, adjunct professor of genome sciences (retired) and director emeritus of the University of Washington's Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. Dr. Martin was a founding member of The Academy for Life and Healthspan Research. He was also a member of AFAR’s Board of Directors since 1995 and was elected Scientific Director in 2003, a position he served in for some ten years, overseeing AFAR’s scientific and grant programs. His research involved genetic approaches to elucidate the pathobiology of aging and age-related diseases.
